Franken! first edition

I have created my first franken polish!

It was an adventure in shaking and spillage but it was a successful adventure.

The story begins here, with a cat.
from qiacat.blogspot.com
A cat like this one. A korat. More specifically, my boyfriend's cat Mallory.
from freetheleafcutterants.xanga.com
This is Mallory. He (that's right. Mallory is a he) is the most peculiar cat I have ever encountered...
He is scared of everything but the other cats. In the household hierarchy, Mallory is king.
He scurries around the house with his belly close to the floor and attacks anyone who stands in his way.
If Mallory sees your hand approaching him in a way that would suggest touching him, he will react in one of 2 ways...
1. he will quickly scurry away and look back at you in a way that says "I keel you"
2. he squeaks out a "Mallory noise" incomparable to any other sound emitted by a cat and attempts to bite your hand

With that said, Mallory is a cool cat. Peculiar, independent, and cool.
He is also the prettiest color...

In his honor, and because I like that color and wanted it very much, I created: Mallory polish

coincidentally, there is a swatch of Wet Cement and Mallory in the background
To make this cool steely gray, I used lots of Sally Hansen in Wet Cement and added a touch of bright blue and a ton of black.

with flash
it is nighttime here so I couldn't get a good picture but I will do a mani with this soon enough
For now, I'm just happy I finally made a franken :)

Quick Weekend Nail and flea market finds

The only disadvantage of Matte nail polish is how quickly it becomes un-matte. You wash your hands, they turn a little shiny. You eat some french fries for lunch, they turn a little bit more shiny. And the final blow to the matte finish: you put on lotion, and you might as well be wearing a normal polish with no topcoat...

So I got tired of putting more matte topcoat on there, so for my spontaneous trip to the mountain, I decided to change them up. I didn't have very long, so I picked up my favorite mani-maker: Hidden Treasure!

I know it is nothing new. But this nail polish is seriously the best. Fantastic looking nails in about 10 minutes, how could you not love it.

Also, on this weekend adventure, we ended up stopping at a flea market by the road and I found some super cute Sinful Color polishes that I have been on the lookout for

Halloween Ruffian

This design was not intended to look halloweeny... It just turned out that way...
I really wanted to try my first Nubar polish that I received in a swap. The color, Caramelo,  looked like an orangey gold in the bottle. Well, turns out it looked more orange than gold out of the bottle. I really like it though, it's a beautiful color.
Here is my first attempt at the ruffian manicure, which has been showing up everywhere!

With Matte black on top :)

Orange!
Nubar in Caramelo
Sally Hansen in Black out
China Glaze Matte Magic

Easy peasy nails but I have been feeling lazy lately with the designs.
Also! I treated myself to some Cherry Culture goodies (as a reward for all the GRE studying I did :D) so whenever I get those, Ill let you guys know what I think of the stuff and site overall. In the mean time, it's time to change polish

Rainy day

Hello all,

Sorry about the lack of posts. I was so busy studying for the GRE, I didnt even have time (or energy) to change my nail polish... It was unfortunate :(
But now! things are better so back to the polish!

It's been raining a lot here for the past couple of weeks. The weather is cooling down (as much as it can in South Carolina...) and I've actually had to start wearing socks D:  I am not a fan of socks...
Anyhow, I decided the weather called for a cool and rainy color so here is China Glaze in Secret Peri-Wink-Le
sorry about the lack of clean up. >_>

Then! the weather started getting better again. More sun and heat, so I added some sponging and stamping  and nail stickers to happy it up a bit.
Bundle monster plate 10
China glaze in Agent Peri-Wink-Le
Sally Hansen in Celeb City
Sally Hansen in Mint Sprint
Nail stickers for 8ty8 beauty

Incoco Nail Applique

I was really exited to receive this product as a gift in one of my swaps. Ive seen them at the drugstore but the price was a little too steep for me to go ahead and try it. One of the colors I received (and the one I am about to show you) is Casablanca. It's a nice vampy red with red shimmer. There are some good things and some not so good things, but we'll get to that.

hard to see the pretty shimmer but trust me, it's there! Ok, so application of these bad boys wasn't too difficult. Im sure with practice, they would look better, but for a noob, I think they looked decent enough.
The only problem I came across was difficulty in finding the right size... My index, middle, and ring finger are all practically the same size. As for my pinky, the smallest size was too small while the next size was too big (and needed for my ring finger...)
Ended up with this:

:( Womp womp
oh well right?
so, Im not really a fan of plain colored nails... So I decided, on the second day, to add my new favorite to these: Hidden Treasure!
I liked the finished product a lot better. Plus HT hid some of the imperfections and wrinkles from my shaky application.

Much better right??
and this is what I was left with

random strips that I should probably throw away but I keep thinking Ill find something to do with these!! Im a nail polish hoarder.

any suggestions for what to do with them?
