More stars! yay!

Wow... Definitely welcome to all of my new followers. I must say I was quite surprised when I logged on today to see so many people! So hello to all old friends and new ^_^

Life has been busy here at the Nail Spot. Between interviews for grad school, working on senior projects, and getting together my presentation for my summer research I have been sporting bare nails... Also, maybe it's stress, maybe it's the new basecoat Ive been using, but my nails have become quite weak. I dont mind if I break a nail.... In fact I expect it since I use them as tools (I know I know...) quite often, but right now, my nails are looking quite raunchy. Theyre short, theyre uneven, they just keep breaking... Hopefully the OPI strengthener will fix that up!

Since youre probably not interested in seeing my pathetic excuse for nails at the moment, here is something I dug up from the not labeled folder, or as I like to call it "the archives"

BB Couture in Sea of Cortez
LuciDarling in Silver Spangle
Sally Hansen in Celeb City

So celeb city was probably not the best stamping polish choice, as you can see it's kind of grainy looking... But it does have a cool effect if thats what youre looking for.
Sea of Cortez is quite amazing. Beautiful shade with fantastic microglitter. It's really a unique polish.

Of course I cant get enough of the LuciDarling collection by Etude House. If you dont have them yet, buy them! they are truly amazing!

So its the last week to enter the giveaway, so if you haven't done that, go and submit the form now.
Little reminder, comment entries dont count.... you have to fill the form.
other than that, I am quite amazed at the number of people who have entered. That google Doc is getting intense looking!

So good luck to everyone!
Until next time ^_^

Glittery Star

I was trying to figure out a nice mani to use mty Etude House "black" polish for and all I could come up with is a night sky... Original I know...

But I remembered this amazing tutorial by Blue Tape and Nail Tips for super cute shooting star nails. You can see her original blog entry here.

Since I dont have blue painter's tape, I use regular scotch tape.
Here are a few tips I have learned for taping manicures.

  • cut all your tape pieces BEFORE you begin painting your nails. Scissors are not wet  polish friendly
  • before you put the tape on your nail, stick it on the palm of your hand to remove some of the stickyness. This will prevent it from taking up the base layer.
  • after you've placed your tape and painted one nail, remove tape immediately. Dont go on to the other nail until  the tape is off of the first one. You dont want the polish to dry on top of the tape and take off all of your hard work right?
  • finally, wait until your base polish is just dry to the touch to tape things up. If it's too dry (like day after you painted your nails dry) the tape is more likely chip it off. If it's not dry enough... well you know...
tip wear. Partially due to seche vite and partially due to doing the dishes before taking the picture >_<

Green shimmer!

Purple shimmer!
Etude House in Black
OPI in Simmer  and Shimmer
Star is from Bundle Monster on Amazon

Thank you to everyone who has entered the giveaway and welcome to the new followers!
If you haven't done so already, enter the giveaway now! do it do it! Enter the Giveaway here :)

Easy Peasy Party Nails

This was my New Years mani but it would work equally well for any partyfull occasion.
Step 1- layer down a chrome/foil base
Step 2- add your choice of glitter.
Repeat step 2 until you have achieved Party Worthy results

Sally Hansen in Celeb City
Urban Outfitters in Sparkle

Even though this was pretty simple, I received lots of compliments on it. I guess sometimes its not about how intricate and detailed things are.

Until next time ^_^

Snowflake Junkie

I'm actually not a big fan of snow... Yes, it is pretty and I did have lots of fun in it when I was a kid, but now it's just a pain. South Carolina is not equipped for snow so when it does, everything closes and people go in mass panic to stock up on milk and bread. Then the school has make up classes on Saturday and all the while you are stuck in the house because the roads are still icy. *ends rant*

but yes, snow is pretty :)

Index nail broke again :( after I put on polish too... and forgive the smudge on the ring finger. I dont even know what happened there....
Here is a little swatch of LuciDarling in Mint
it was a nice, fast drying, foil green color.

Etude House in Mint
Sinful Colors in Nail Junkie
Sally Hansen in White Out

I love how Nail Junkie made the whole thing shimmer! flecks flecks everywhere :D

Also, dont forget to enter my giveaway. Just click here
*** little update about that, I forgot to write in there that any suggestions made count as 1 entry. If you have already submitted the form without a suggestion and want to add one, just leave it as a comment and I will count it! if you made a suggestion, the extra entry has already been given to you :)

Until next time ^_^

    Candy Nails (and unexpected glitter)

its a cold and rainy night here in South Carolina, well colder than what I wish it were, so to cheer up the mood  I have for you: Candy Nails!!

Kind of. They remind me of candy. Maybe theyll remind you of something else?

Please excuse the "glitter fingers". We all know how much of a pain Glitter removal is >_<

Just a little swatch of LuciDarling Tender Mint. It has a really nice shimmer that I cant resist!

    Candy Nails!
    Etude House in Tender Mint
    Petites Color Fever in Fiji
    Sally Hansen in Lively Lilac
    Zoya in Demi
The lines are not very nice close up. For some reason, my hands were shaking like crazy! eh well, it looked nice from a not so zoomed distance :D

Now on to the unexpected glitter...

in my Etude House swatch post I showed you this little thingy:
if the spoons look familiar, its because I used the empty side of the Zoya color Palette >_>
The second polish from the left is simply called Black, but as you can see it has some nice green/teal glitter flecks
I left this laying on my desk, and when I walked by it one morning, I noticed something else.
not only  does it have green flecks, it also has purple!

This sadly named Black polish is a lot more exciting than its name would make you believe.
Can you guess what Ill be wearing next?

    Until next time ^_^

    Circles and Cells

This mani was created out of boredom during my holiday break. I had been wearing BB Couture's Michael which held up like a beast! this color hardly chips, it's ridiculous! Michael is a very pretty purple with blue shimmer, but after 2 days of him, I needed a change. It's not him, it's me... >_>

    So out came the Konad!

    BB couture in Michael
    Chameleon in Calypso
Etude House in Fantastic Heart Topcoat

Turns out Calypso makes a neat stamping color. Subtle but pretty :D
And the BM stamp kind of reminds me of the cells we had to draw in Bio class

    Until next time ^_^

    Because Zoya is awesome

I decided to do a mani using a couple of my favorite Zoya colors in celebration of the amazing promotion they  had this week ^_^ 3 free bottles of good quality polish of my choice? beyond awesome!

I used a trick from Chloe's Nails that she called the shredded mani. Click on the link to see how to do it for yourself. It really is super easy!

    Zoya in Charla
    Zoya in Ibiza

If you have ever seen Charla for yourself, than you know that this picture does not do it justice. It is simply amazing. A foiley blue base with green micro glitter creates polish perfection.
Ibiza, though not as fancy, is a remarkable navy creme.

So there you go! A thanks to Zoya for their amazing promotion. I can't wait to get my stuff in the mail!

    Until next time ^_^
